Tips for Exam

  • Read the instructions carefully
    • Focus on number of word limit mentioned in the questions. For example, the question may say that do not write more then two words. In this case you have to limit your answers. To understand better “IELTS” is one word and “IELTS Conqueror” are two words.
  • No negative Marking
    • Even if you do not know the answer, still attempt it. You will not loose anything.
  • No Extra Time for transferring the answers to Answer Sheet
    • Whether you are giving exam on computer or on paper, you will not get any extra time for transferring your answers to answer sheet. On computer based exam, you will be writing on blank spaces in front of question and for paper based exam, make sure you write directly on the answer sheet only.
  • Read the questions first
    • This is something most of the people won’t ever realise the benefits of this because they always think this is a useless thing to do. But when you read the questions first, it makes it easier for your brain to look for the keywords which are asked in the exam questions. Otherwise, if you read the paragraph first and then switch to questions, you will still read the paragraph again as you will just recall that there is reference of this topic in the essay, but you will never pick up the answer in the first attempt.
  • Use the correct spelling
    • Spellings of very important while attempting your IELTS exam. Just like every other section, reading is also very important. Don’t make a mistake of ignoring the spellings in the reading exam. Pattern may be reading, but the exam is to judge your English.
  • Paraphrasing is important
    • You will not find the answers directly, so you need to focus on the information rather than just finding the keywords. You might see the information paraphrased in a different manner. So practice well in advance, read the question carefully and look for the answer with full attention..
  • Tips for true, false, not given questions
    • Personally, I find true false, not given questions as the toughest of all. This doesn’t look like difficult until you practice. The questions are sometimes very tricky that if you consider paraphrasing, it looks like a true statement, but if you just focus on the keyword, it looks like False and sometimes not given.
    • If you see the question specifying the exact information, maybe in a para face for mark the answer as True.
    • If you see the question, ask for something, and the paragraph has no reference at all, make it as not given
    • Now if you have to filter out, between not given and false, make sure that if you find the information which contradicts the query, then on the market as falls, otherwise, there is a high probability that it will be marked as not given

feel free to ask any question which is troubling you for your exam. Wish you best of your luck. 🙂
